About Nuvv Research

Nuvv Research is the publishing arm of Nuvv. We maintain a commerce dataset covering millions of Shopify and WooCommerce storefronts — weekly storefront snapshots going back to 2019, plus our own crawl of live product catalogues — and we publish what it shows.

What we publish

Derived aggregates only. Medians, indices, distributions, cohort movements. We do not redistribute raw records, ours or anyone else's, and nothing we publish identifies an individual merchant.

The method, in full. Every report carries its methodology and its limitations in the same document, not in a footnote. If a figure is modelled rather than observed, we say so. If a finding is an association rather than a cause, we say that too, and we say it in the place where someone might otherwise draw the wrong conclusion.

Numbers we have checked against something. Where a published figure could be an artefact of how the data is collected, we test it. The 2026 assortment finding, for example, was verified against our own product-level crawl of 894 randomly sampled stores before it was published, because "merchants widened their range" and "merchants stopped retiring products" look identical in a product count.

Why we do it

Nuvv sells commerce intelligence. Research is how we demonstrate that the dataset supports conclusions rather than just row counts — and, honestly, it is the part of the work we most want to be judged on. If a figure here is wrong, we would like to know; corrections are recorded in the document itself rather than quietly edited.

Journalists: the full method is published, and we will walk through the cohort construction with you on a call if it is useful. We would rather you understood the limitations than reported the number without them.
